Breast aesthetic surgeries are among the most commonly performed procedures. Interventions are performed depending on the purpose and technique of the surgery. In this article, we will discuss scarring after breast surgery. Enjoy reading.

Breast surgeries are performed in a variety of ways: augmentation, reduction, and lift. We've covered all the procedures in previous articles: breast augmentation, breast reduction, and breast lift. You can access each of these procedures by clicking the link above. Breast aesthetic surgery, especially breast reduction and breast lift, involves incisions. So, what are the post-operative scars like? How do they heal? What is the treatment and aftercare process? Let's take a look at each step.

Scars After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Scarring varies depending on the method used for breast augmentation surgery.

If implants are to be placed in the armpit, an incision is made. To minimize postoperative scarring, the incision is made in the armpit crease. It is not very noticeable after surgery.

If breast implants are to be placed through the nipples, a circular incision is made at the junction of the brown area of the nipple and the white part of the skin. After the implants are placed, the nipple is stitched to the same location. Since any incision will leave a scar, there will be a scar there as well. With proper postoperative care, the scars will be almost imperceptible.

If implants are to be placed under the breast, a 2-3 cm incision is made in the area where the bra incision is. The implants are inserted through these incisions. At the end of the surgery, the incisions are closed with great care. With due care, the scars will be barely visible.

Scars After Breast Reduction Surgery

Breast reduction surgery is more complicated than breast implant surgery. Reduction surgery involves incisions, and excess tissue is removed. In the inverted T technique, a vertical incision is made below the nipple and a horizontal incision is made below the breast. In the vertical technique, a vertical incision is made below the nipple. Unfortunately, scarlessness is not a possibility, as scarring will be present at every incision.

Scars After Breast Lift Surgery

Breast lift surgery can be performed using the same nipple incision, tert-T technique, or vertical technique as breast reduction surgery. This procedure also results in a scarless appearance. While recent endoscopic breast lifts have become scarless, this approach is not suitable for every breast type. Endoscopic breast lifts are scar-free.

How to Heal Scars?

The incisions will begin to heal. However, the smoothness of this healing is in the patient's hands. They should strictly follow their doctor's instructions. If the patient does not have keloids, the incisions will heal well and take on a pearlescent color. It can take up to a year for the incisions to take on a pearlescent color. This process requires patience and care.

Treatment and Care Recommendations

  • There are bandages and dressings after breast aesthetic surgery.

  • Water should not come into contact with the operated area until the patient comes for a check-up.

  • Any movement or activity that will strain or create pressure on your stitches should be avoided.

  • Quality rest should be provided.

  • The wound healing and scar removal creams prescribed by the doctor should be applied with due discipline and should not be neglected.

  • The incision areas should not be exposed to direct sunlight and should be protected from the sun.

  • You should not use a tanning bed until the incisions have completely healed.
